'Private Practice' may yet return for 13-episode season
Don't say goodbye to the folks at Seaside Wellness just yet, because rumor has it that although ABC has been considering cutting Private Practice loose after this season, recent strong ratings may bring it back for another season. A 13-episode season, perhaps, but another season, nonetheless.
Deadline.com says the Grey's Anatomy spinoff has benefitted from its recent move to Tuesdays at 10 p.m., spiking ratings at a level not seen in more than a year and a half. No one's ruling out 18 or even 22 episodes just yet, but rumblings that series star Kate Walsh has committed to 13 episodes may be a harbinger of a shortened sixth and final tour of duty.
The site notes series creator Shonda Rhimes is the one with the hectic schedule, as it would force her into overseeing Grey's, Practice, her new show Scandal and Gilded Lilys, a period piece for which she's done a pilot and is in contention for being picked up. Good, because something needs to replace Dana Delany's Body of Proof or that awful GCB. We don't see either of those making it.
