R. Kelly says 'The Notebook' signaled end of marriage
Singer R. Kelly was married to former backup dancer Andrea Lee Kelly for 12 years, fathering three children with her and generally living the dream until they divorced in 2009. But what was the catalyst for their split? According to Kelly, it was The Notebook.
"As the film credits started to roll, I couldn't move," he wrote about the film in his new book Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me, TMZ reports. "I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. The Notebook was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together. But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine's Day -- when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses -- that had come and gone ... My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back."
Andrea disputed this series of events, noting the pair had seen the movie together in 2004 and their divorce hadn't been finalized until 2009. "We had been separated for 6 years at that point," she told the site. "The movie definitely did not end our relationship!"
Well, you may be taking things a little too literally, Andrea, but whatever. We all know Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling made it hard for everyone to think straight after that.
