Randy Jackson will return to 'American Idol,' Enrique Iglesias out
The panel-shuffling at American Idol continues, but forget about Enrique Iglesias joining the crew. No, his seat will be refilled by stalwart judge Randy Jackson. You just can't keep him down, dawg.
Deadline.com says Fox has decided to pick up Jackson's option for next season, but is potentially shoving him into a smaller role, which would make sense, what with all his weight loss over the years. Discussions with Iglesias soured, but weren't the reason Jackson was brought back, the site says. Deadline notes Fox honcho Kevin Reilly has long been a Randy supporter, and has been anticipating Jackson would return. The capacity in which he'll serve is still up in the air, however.
It'll be interesting to see where he ends up on the show, since he was integral to bringing Mariah Carey on board, since he's her manager and all. We'll know soon enough, since Fox should have contracts finalized for Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, too. But with no Simon Cowell to play the industry man on the panel, it'll be an uphill battle for Idol -- as if putting Mimi and Nicki in the same room together isn't already asking for trouble.
