Randy Travis arrested for public drunkenness in Texas
Country legend Randy Travis was arrested in Sanger, Texas, Monday morning on suspicion of having a little too much to drink, but luckily for him, he wasn't actually driving the car he was in. That netted him a mere public intoxication charge and not a DUI. Thank goodness he was so sauced he couldn't figure out how to get moving.
A town cop noticed Travis in his 1998 black Pontiac in front of the First Baptist Church of Sanger and went over to talk to the driver, the Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate reports. He realized it was THE Randy Travis and smelled booze in the car, noting Randy started slurring more the longer he talked. The singer told the cop he had an argument with his girlfriend and wanted to go back to his ranch in Tioga, 20 miles away.
"Mr. Travis was unaware of his location and kept asking me to take him home," the officer reported. He was taken to the Denton County drunk tank and allowed to sober up and leave, but not before being booked for the misdemeanor.
"I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl. I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions," Travis said in a statement Monday. Wow, we didn't know he was a Patriots fan.
