The Razzies love 'The Love Guru,' Mike Myers
The 2008 nominees for the Razzies -- the vastly more interesting counterpart to the Oscars that celebrate awfulness on film -- have nominated Mike Myers' The Love Guru for seven awards, the AP reports. Only seven?
Besides worst picture, there are nods for worst acting for Myers, Jessica Alba, Verne Troyer and even Oscar winner Ben Kingsley. Razzies founder John Wilson called it a well-deserved round of ridicule.
"This is one of those auteur-of-the-awful situations," Wilson said. "I think people are tired of him in general. He hasn't really made a good movie in quite some time."
Other worst picture noms were reserved for Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale and, for our first 2009 mention of usually banned celebutard Paris Hilton, The Hottie & the Nottie.
It seems when Hilton isn't being accused of swiping 30 free gift bags at Sundance, she's been getting noticed by the Razzies, who gave her three nods: worst actress and worst screen couple in Hottie and worst supporting actress for Repo! The Genetic Opera.
Other multiple nominees included Eddie Murphy, who got two for Meet Dave, and Cameron Diaz, who got two for What Happens in Vegas with Ashton Kutcher.
Another big name catching heat was Al Pacino, who is in the running for worst actor for 88 Minutes. That's a lot less obvious than his company, Larry the Cable Guy. For a full list of nominees, go to www.razzies.com.
