Regis Philbin gets new job as co-host with Rachael Ray
There was a lot of murmuring that Regis Philbin's departure from his morning talk show with Kelly Ripa wasn't exactly his idea, because even at 81 it's not like Reege wanted to sit around the house every morning. Now he won't have to, because he'll be sharing a kitchen with Rachael Ray starting on Monday. It will be possibly the loudest show on television!
"I tried to make a distinct point that I wasn't retiring, that I was moving on. Everybody said 'retired'!" Philbin told USA Today. But he isn't bitter about leaving Live! with Regis and Kelly at all. "I feel terrific! I've enjoyed my time." That kind of magnanimous gladhanding is how he stayed on daytime for 28 seasons.
The new gig isn't all the time, however; Philbin will be dropping by once a month to chew the fat and not much else.
"I'm not gonna say I don't want to do your show! I think it's fun. I spent my whole life doing this," he said, noting it'll be easier this way. "It's not the every-morning burden. ... I'm not a co-host, I'm just a guy showing up on her show once a month. I love the idea. It's fun to be back on TV when you don't have to do it every day."
We know how you feel, Regis; We feel the same way about writing The Juice*.
