Ricky Gervais, Hollywood say everything is just fine after Golden Globes, but he won't be back
We're far from done with Ricky Gervais, Sunday bruising of the egos at the Golden Globes, but unlike the breathless gossip reports that said he offended everyone from Tom Hanks to the pope, Gervais says his camera time wasn't cut short and people seemed to take the ribbing in good spirits. Glad we've got that cleared up.
"I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap," Gervais said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. "This is because I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for. (And who I knew had a good sense of humour). Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great."
Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Philip Berk, who got the brunt of a rather caustic comment about needing help putting in his dentures and using the toilet, publicly said everything was (mostly) fine: "He definitely crossed the line," Berk told the Hollywood Reporter, noting he had not vetted the show's comments because Gervais doesn't allow that. "And some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that's Ricky. ... I had absolutely no idea what Ricky was going to say so anything I heard was at the same time you heard it. When you hire Ricky Gervais, you expect the unexpected."
Well, whatever; These are people who lie on film for a living, so you think they're going to be honest now? Ricky told TMZ Tuesday that he wont be back in 2012 either eay: "I think twice is enough," he said. The Juice* still says good on ya, Ricky. Those effite Hollywood snobs need to be taken down a peg unawares once in awhile.
