Rigor Mortis and Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia dead at 47
Mike Scaccia, a guitarist for metal bands Ministry and Rigor Mortis, died last Saturday after collapsing during a show, Rolling Stone reports. He was 47.
The guitarist was playing at a Fort Worth venue for Rigor Mortis singer Bruce Corbitt's 50th birthday when he asked the house to turn off its strobe lights. He then collapsed and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead of a heart attack.
"I just lost my lil' brother and my best friend — the 13th Planet compound is devastated, completely in shock and shattered," Ministry's Al Jourgensen said in a Facebook post. "Mikey was not only the best guitar player in the history of music, but he was a close, close, close part of our family — and I just lost a huge chunk of my heart today. ... Rest in peace my brother, my friend, my heart. Please pray for Mike Scaccia and Jenny, his wife and their children, and his family."
Scaccia formed Rigor Mortis in 1983 and then was recruited by Jourgensen to play in Ministry in 1989. He was featured on the band's 2012 album, Relapse.
