Rihanna donates sleeping bags, asks fans for supplies to help with Sandy victims
Not willing to let Lady Gaga's $1 million donation to Superstorm Sandy relief get all the press, Rihanna decided to get her own headlines by making the admission fee for her record release party Friday to be relief supplies for people in need. And to think, the price had originally be free!
"Now is the time for us to come together and do whatever we can to aid those in need," the singer told the New York Daily News in an email before the Friday afternoon event at Jay-Z's 40/40 club in Manhattan. She asked fans coming to the "Rihanna & Friends" event to bring diapers and baby wiopes, coats, blankets and cleaning supplies, according to the newspaper, and has herself donated 1,000 sleeping bags. Hope they're heated.
The paper also mentions Simon Cowell gave $100,000, but we know that guy drives a Bugatti Veyron. He probably had that amount rolling around at the bottom of his washing machine.
