Once we found out last year that Universal was making a big-screen adaptation of that rainy day board game staple Battleship, our eyes rolled so hard they knocked a bulb out of the overhead lighting. Now E! announces that Rihanna is set to star in it for her first-ever fictional movie role. Oh, then it has to be good.

The 22-year-old singer will join Friday Night Lights' Taylor Kitsch and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård in what E! describes as a folks who "end up leading the fight for their planet's survival against an otherworldly force." That doesn't sound anything at all like what Hasbro cooked up.

Hancock director Peter Berg is attached to make movie  for a 2012 release. That'll give us some time to replay the game a few times so we can figure out where Rihanna fits in.
