Roseanne Barr is working on a new blue-collar sitcom
You don't think movie and TV producers are out of ideas? Try this one: Roseanne Barr starring in her own blue-collar sitcom about a family hunkering down in a tough economy? No, it's not 1997, it's right now, and yes, she's getting a new show that sounds almost identical to her old show. It will be on after the one about an uptight midwestern guy whose immigrant brother moves in and that drama about big-city cops.
Downwardly Mobile will star Barr, who is in cahoots with boyfriend Johnny Argent, whom we've all met thanks to her reality show, Roseanne's Nuts. The project is being written up at 20th Century Fox, which will shop the show around once a pilot is shot, the Hollywood Reporter says.
It remains to be seen if this show will also end up with a cast in which every character but Roseanne is likable (well, Becky was a little snotty, too). It's certainly got a better chance than her talker The Roseanne Show ever did. But please, don't do the thing where she wins the lottery, whether that actually happened or not.
