Russell Crowe challenges columnist to bike ride
Russell Crowe was pretty torqued when an Aussie gossip columnist called him out for eating junk food on a bike ride recently, so Crowe challenged the newsie to a bicycle duel, the AP reports. Don't worry, he didn't hit the woman with a telephone or anything.
Annette Sharp's column in Sidney's Daily Telegraph poked fun of Crowe by publishing pictures last Tuesday of the actor pausing from a bike ride to smoke a cigarette and shovel tacos in his face. The headline for the pics read "Smokes and fatty foods the fitness regime for Rusty," which didn't sit too well with Rusty, although he had been looking a bit soggy in the midsection there for awhile.
Crowe's spokesman called Sharp the next day and said, "Get on your bike. Russell wants you to go riding with him. Are you ready to die?"
Surprisingly, Sharp accepted the challenge, meeting Crowe at dawn for a 12-mile race through the city. Russ apparently cruised through the whole thing while Sharp puffed away and even once fell off her bike. Not that Crowe was too nasty about it: "You're twice the man Baz is," he told her, referring to director Baz Luhrmann.
So what they're saying is, if you want to meet a celebrity in some sort of physical challenge, just rip on them in your gossip column? Hey, Eva Mendes, you can't jump up and down on a trampoline worth a damn!
