Salma Hayek being awarded title of Knight by the French
Salma Hayek is joining the likes of Jerry Lewis, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro by being honored with the title of Knight by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, People reports. Dame Salma has a certain ring to it ... wait, wrong country.
Hayek is one of the people included in Sarkozy's list of inductees to the country's Legion d'Honneur, and her rank of Chevalier is the first of five tiers allowing her to attend a medal-pinning ceremony at the Elysees Palace in the next two months. Her father-in-law, retired business mogul Francois Pinault (pictured), will be promoted to Grand Officer, the fourth tier, at the same time.
There isn't much reason given as to why she was awarded the title, beyond marrying Pinault's PPR CEO son, Francois-Henri Pinault. That doesn't sit well with a lot of French, it seems; former French budget minister Henri Torre has even refused to accept his own nomination, telling Francophile mag Marianne that "too many people were nominated who do not deserve to be honored." Hey, if Salma one day is able to explain to her daughter Valentina that the Antonio Banderas she costarred with in Puss In Boots is the same guy she had a sex scene with in Desperado, she deserves a medal.
