'Seinfeld' actor Daniel von Bargen survives shooting himself in the head
Former Seinfeld actor Daniel von Bargen, who played George Costanza's aloof boss Mr. Kruger, has survived an apparent suicide attempt after shooting himself in the head, TMZ reports. He only lived because he then called 911 to report the injury.
"I've shot myself in the head ... and I need help," the 61-year-old is heard saying on a police recording on the site. When the dispatcher asked von Barger if the shooting was an accident, he replied, "I was supposed to go to the hospital and I didn't want to. ... They were supposed to amputate at least a few toes."
Von Barger is diabetic, and had already lost at least part of one leg from complications from the disease, the AP added. He said he had been feeling depressed before shooting himself in the temple.
The actor, who also played Commandant Spangler on Malcolm in the Middle (a character coincidentally missing a hand) and Chief Grady in Super Troopers, was taken to a Cincinnati hospital. No further updates on his condition were immediately available.
