'Sex and the City' prequel series coming to CW
That Sex and the City prequel series has gotten the green light and will be coming to the CW, courtesy of the people behind Gossip Girl. A series brought to you by the people who modeled their own program largely on the show the new series is a prequel to? That's about as meta as we can get today, folks.
The Hollywood Reporter says Warner Bros. Television and Fake Empire, the production company of Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, will be creating The Carrie Diaries, based on a book by Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell. The 2010 book followed Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw during her senior year in high school in the 1980s. Great, another show set in the '80s.
The CW agreed to the show on Friday, thanks to a little nudge from corporat cohort HBO. There's another young Carrie book, Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Book, which came out in April, so you know this series has legs. It's like Sweet Valley High for the middle-age set.
