Shannen Doherty uses Twitter to prevent suicide
Celebrities using Twitter to do all sorts of stuff isn't new. Heck, former Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty even used Twitter to help police find one of her fans who was threatening to commit suicide. Wait, what?
Doherty, 41, called police in Westhampton, N.J., saying one of her Twitter followers was threatening to kill herself, People reports. "This is going to sound incredibly strange," Doherty, who was in California, said in a call to police the authorities released Sunday. "My name is Shannen Doherty and I'm an actress. I am on Twitter, sadly, and there is a girl that is threatening to shoot herself and she lives somewhere over there. I'm completely untrained to deal with somebody threatening to commit suicide, especially via Twitter. ... I'm sitting here, like, you know, freaking out and held hostage and I can't even do anything."
She did get an address from the woman, however, and police found her safe and sound. But that didn't stop the 911 dispatcher from getting a little moony-eyed: "All my co-workers can't believe who I'm on the phone with," the dispatcher said during the call. "They all want your Twitter account." Wow, some people. Look it up on Google like everyone else.
