Sharon Osbourne wins libel case with tabloid
The Juice* always has to pay attention when legal rulings on libel laws are issued, just to see if it's about something we might have written (so far, so good, knock on wood). But the publishers of the U.K.'s Sun weren't so lucky, since they have to pony up for Sharon Osbourne.
The tabloid agreed to pay undisclosed damages and legal costs, as well as apologize to Osbourne, who sued over an October 2007 story that falsely accused her of "driving her frail husband Ozzy Osbourne to destruction," court papers say. Obviously that's wrong, because Ozzy was quite capable of doing that on his own.
Her lawyer, John Kelly, said the unfounded allegations were "extremely distressing, hurtful and damaging," the AP reports. Not as distressing, hurtful and damaging as their MTV show, but the statute of limitations on that likely has run out.
