Slash, Usher joining Super Bowl halftime show
Just in case you thought Christina Aguilera and the Black Eyed Peas were too much six-months-ago hipness for the Super Bowl, now you'll get to see even more people who aren't as popular as the NFL thinks they are. That's right, Slash and Usher are making surprise appearances during the halftime show. Oops, it's not a surprise anymore.
A source tells the AP the two artists are making unannounced appearances at the Super Bowl XLV performance, which was booked in response to the NFL deciding in the past few years that you had to be collecting Social Security in order to play at one of their stadia. Usher had will.i.am on his song O.M.G. and Slash worked with Fergie on Beautiful Dangerous, so there's some reasoning behind this.
At this point, there's no one that could perform at the halftime show that wouldn't make us unhappy. They could have Gorillaz singing with B.B. King while Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman re-enacted Black Swan, and there would still be naysayers. At least they're not trying that 3-D gimmick anymore.
