Sony picks up 'Black Dynamite' on MLK Day

20

January

Sony sure knows how to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the inauguration of the first black president: The studio has picked up the blaxploitation movie Black Dynamite on Monday, announcing they will pay about $2 million for all North American rights to the movie, the Hollywood Reporter says.

Sony says it hopes for a summer or fall release of the movie, which is a tongue-in-cheek homage to 1970s sex-and-violence fare like Shaft and Dolemite. The principals in the Scott Sanders flick, including lead Michael Jai White, are all signed for a sequel, which Sony hopes to make a franchise.

The Juice* gets the joke, but it's a flick so full of nudity, gore and four-letter words that we have to warn you the green-band trailer above is the cleanest clip you'll find on the whole Internets. Enjoy responsibly.
