Stephen Colbert's sister Elizabeth running for S.C. House
So what if Stephen Colbert didn't didn't run for president again, or get appointed to former South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint's seat when he retired to work for the Heritage Foundation? That doesn't mean his sister can't still run for a House seat.
Politico reports Elizabeth Colbert-Busch is filing Tuesday to run as a Democrat for former Rep. Tim Scott's empty seat, left vacant after Scott was appointed to Jim DeMint's Senate position. If Colbert-Busch wins the Charleston-area seat in the Democratic primary, she'll square off against the Republican winner in a general election on May 7.
Her potential foe in that contest could conceivably be former S.C. governor Mark Sanford, who is running for the seat after resigning in disgrace in 2009 after being caught cheating on his wife. Another possibility is Teddy Turner, the son of billionaire Ted Turner. He may have a few bucks to spend on a campaign, too.
