Sarasota had its own brush with celebrity on Tuesday night, as writer Stephen King spoke out against Gov. Rick Scott's policies during an Awake the State rally in the city's downtown. And to hear King tell it, the new governor is the scariest thing he can think of right now.

"Maybe my next horror novel will star Rick Scott," the Casey Key resident told he crowd, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (watch video of his comments above). He told he crowd to thank union workers and veterans, and called out Scott or turning down $2.4 billion in federal funds for high-speed rail because the governor called it a boondoggle. Scott's right, King said, it was "probably a bad deal, considering how low the price of gas is. ... Who would want to get on a railroad when they can drive scenic I-4 and wait in traffic?"

The Awake the State rallies were carried on across Florida on Tuesday night in advance of Scott's State of the State address. During the speech in Tallahassee, Scott revealed that he actually was a thousand-year-old soul-eater who had come to this world from the 12th dimension to suck the brains out of anyone in a rural population center smaller than 5,000 people. Wait, no, we're just suggesting ideas for King's book.
