Survivor's Richard Hatch wants prison sentence thrown out
We're going to ask you to dig way back in your reality TV memory well and recall Richard Hatch, the winner of the first-ever season of Survivor. You know, the one with all the tax problems. Well, he's in prison, and he's asking to have his sentence thrown out. If we were stuck in a West Virginia lockup, we'd want out early, too.
Hatch filed a brief Thursday in the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, saying the court ignored lots of factors in his conviction for violating the terms of his supervised release by failing to file amended tax returns for 2000 and 2001, the AP reports. That's why he's serving nine months after being sentenced in March, but he adds the length of that term is three months longer than even the prosecution wanted.
Let this be a lesson to all of you: If you win $1 million on a ridiculous reality show, file the proper return for it, or else you'll still be fighting with it 11 years after the fact.
