Sylvester Stallone, Klitschko brothers are making 'Rocky: The Musical'
As if stretching the Rocky series into six movies wasn't bad enough, Sylvester Stallone has come up with a brilliantly awful idea to waste time in between Expendables shoots: Rocky: The Musical. No, we're not just making that up.
Stallone is teaming up with world champ boxing brothers Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko to produce the feat, along with Kevin King Templeton from Sly's Rouge Marble production company. They announced the project in Hamburg on Monday.
"At the end of the day, Rocky is a love story and he could never have reached the final bell without Adrian," said Stallone. "To see this story coming to life on a musical stage makes me proud. And it would make Rocky proud."
The Producers writer Thomas Meehan will handle the story, and lyricist Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty will supply the music, which will include the songs Eye of the Tiger, Gonna Fly Now and Take You Back, so that's at least a little bit of good news. The more pressing question -- who would pay $100 to watch an awful musical when you could see the source material on TNT any given night -- has yet to be answered.
