TBS cancels George Lopez's 'Lopez Tonight', effective immediately
Say goodnight to George Lopez, because TBS has canceled his Lopez Tonight late-night show after two seasons. Hey, you think he's happy Conan O'Brien showed up as a lead-in now?
The move is immediate, E! News says, with Thursday night's episode featuring Raven-Symone and Auggie Smith being George's last. "TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight," the network said. "We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his hard work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air."
TMZ points out that Lopez's audience fell 40 percent when Conan showed up and bumped him from 11 p.m. -- and O'Brien's ratings are dismal, as well. Jay Leno, anyone? (Actually, we're all watching Stephen Colbert then.) Lopez will be hosting the ALMA Awards with Eva Longoria on Sept. 16, and has a sitcom already in the pipeline, according to a message on his Twitter feed @georgelopez, so don't feel too bad for him. And of course, we expect to see him back at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am in Lutz ASAP. Unless the alleged problem with the hookers pops up again.
