'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood off to prison for five years
Speaking of terrible mothers, Teen Mom poster girl Amber Portwood is headed to the pokey for five years after a judge reimposed a sentence she received because she couldn't complete rehab. Yeah, that's so much better for your kid; let's see MTV make a reality show about that.
Portwood initially got out of her five-year prison sentence for failing a drug test while on probation last year by agreeing to a court-ordered treatment program, but went back before a judge a few weeks ago and asked to be sent back to the clink. Apparently she thought rehab was too difficult, and prison would work out nicely.
"She just opted out," prosecutor Rodney Cummings told CNN. "I just don't think she knew opting out meant five years in prison."
Portwood initially had run-ins with the law after the MTV show aired footage of her punching and choking Gary Shirley, the father of her now 3-year-old daughter. The judge said he would refer Portwood to a program in the Indiana prison, but it doesn't seem like it will work out. If she couldn't stay clean on the outside, being in lockdown won't help. Hey, we used to watch Oz.
