Terrence Howard too rich for 'Iron Man 2'
We've already celebrated the fact that Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. are back for Iron Man 2, but what's the scoop on Terrence Howard being replaced by Don Cheadle. If the folks at Entertainment Weekly are to be believed, it's because Howard was being grossly overpaid. Isn't that an oxymoron in Hollywood these days?
EW says that since Howard was one of the first people signed, his contract guaranteed him much more than any other costar. More than Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow or Jeff Bridges. And he wouldn't renegotiate. Throw in reports that Howard was tough to get along with on set and had to reshoot several scenes and you get Marvel contacting Howard's agent with a drastically reduced offer -- as much as 50 to 80 percent less than before, the mag says.
And while Marvel never told Howard's agents his conduct had been a problem, you can see why they would turn down such a juicy deal. EW is careful to say they don't know who was the first to leave the table, but Marvel quickly moved to secure Cheadle as the replacement for Jim Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine.
