'Thundercats' is returning on Cartoon Network
The remake virus hasn't struck only Tinseltown: Cartoon Network has announced it's resurrecting our beloved ThunderCats as an anime-style project for our TVs. We'd have to give that one a big Lion-No; Bringing back Futurama this month only goes just so far.
"In addition to being Warner Bros. Animation's first anime series, ThunderCats marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy," Sam Register, executive vice president for creative affairs at Warner Bros. Animation told the Hollywood Reporter. WBA is partnering with The Animatrix creators Studio 4C on this one. "The realism and dynamic visual style we've achieved are sure to thrill viewers, and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience."
It's not really ambitious if you're remaking an old idea. THR says this one "will combine swords and science with high-stakes battles as good and evil clash for the Stones of Power," so we've got to wonder if Snarf is involved. Of course, this is from a network that thinks a lineup of cartoons about Green Lantern, Batman, Looney Tunes characters and Scooby-Doo is all-new. Next week: Silverhawks.
