Tina Fey, Amy Poehler will host Golden Globes
As further proof the Golden Globes are a better show than the Oscars, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that NBC's Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will cohost the 70th annual awards ceremony in January. That pair wouldn't even do the Academy Awards, so you know this one should be fun.
"Having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year's festivities is a major coup," Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late-night programming for NBC Entertainment, told the Hollywood Reporter. "Tina and Amy have a proven chemistry and comedic timing from their many years together on SNL to their successful co-starring roles in Baby Mama."
Besides being on the defensive for selecting Seth MacFarlane as their Oscars host, the Academy moved their nominations announcement to Jan. 10, three days before the Globes ceremony, a change from years past. That effectively robs the Globes of their buzz, since the Academy is hoping no one will care while they wait to see who wins Oscars. Picking a pair of friends with winner sitcoms and a devoted fan base among women (who are the ones mostly watching the Academy Awards) still gives the Globes the edge. Of course, watching everyone get drunk at the Screen Actors Guild Awards is better than both.
