Tom Cruise begged Katie Holmes to stay, while she lied about moving out
Tuesday was a pretty dull day for Tom Cruise; Not only did he turn 50, but he had to live with the fact that he apparently pleaded with Katie Holmes to stay with him for a surprise birthday party he was throwing for himself. That's right, it's time for today's TomKat update!
"He begged her to come to Iceland for one last try at reconciliation," a source told Us about Cruise's desperate pleas to save his marriage. The couple apparently fought over her plan to leave him -- go figure -- and he was left to fly back to L.A. from the set of his movie Oblivion. Man, that had to be the longest flight ever.
Speaking of Katie's daring escape, new details have emerged, showing just how sneaking Holmes was being before springing daughter Suri in a move to New York, allegedly because she didn't want the 6-year-old attending a Scientology-run school.
"She was talking to Tom on the phone up until last week saying, 'I love you,' " a source told People. "Her inner circle has been planning this and switching out cell phones since she was in China (in mid-June). When new cell phones arrived, then nobody could reach her. Her old best friends from last week don't have her new number, no email. She's unreachable."
But contrary to prior reports, Tom actually was aware Katie was getting a new apartment. He just didn't know why.
"(Tom) knew that she moved there, but (he thought it was) for different reasons," the source added. "She said she moved there to drive into the underground garage. There are fewer paparazzi and it's less intrusive for her. It was the first phase of getting everything out of the house, and that's why she was able to say she's moving without giving an indication that she was going to divorce him."
Further credit again goes to her dad Martin, whom we previously learned flew in from Toledo to help her set up her divorce. People divulges that what he did was come in and fire all those bodyguards and assistants who knew Tom so she'd feel safe. we're pretty sure he helped with that anonymous divorce filing, too.
If this isn't a Lifetime movie in the making, we don't know what is. We can't wait to see Rob Lowe play Tom. Katie will, of course, play herself, because she needs to start rebuilding her resume. The last thing we actually saw her in was How I Met Your Mother as "Slutty Pumpkin."
