Tom Cruise makes up with Today's Matt Lauer
Matt Lauer opened up all fronts to another attack from Tom Cruise during Monday's Today show, but the actor showed amazing humilty for his 2004 comments about post-partum depression, pharmaceuticals and Lauer's overall glibness. What a way to start the week!
"This is not a rematch,"Lauer warned while introducing Cruise. "This is not Rocky II." (Although it was a somewhat dissatisfying attempt to wring viewership out a pointless spectacle, making it very much like Rocky II.)
After testifying that he and Katie Holmes are thinking about making a sibling for daughter Suri ("I think that's the question for the women," he said), begging off questions about Scientology ("I think there's a time and place for it") and professing his undying love for his wifer ("She's an amazing woman"), Cruise got to the meat of the interview and all but apologized for his antics, including calling Lauer glib for daring to discuss Brooke Shields' mental state and her use of drugs as treatment.
"I went back and looked at it, and it was interesting," Cruise said. "... In looking at myself, I came across as arrogant. ... I didn't communicate it in the way I wanted to communicated it. Also, that's not the way I am. That's not the person I am."
And on and on and on, for more than 10 minutes, which you can watch above. Cruise also blamed his attitude on being near "the end of a p.r. tour" for War of the Worlds: "A lot of stuff was going on. I learned a really good lesson," he said. Such as, people got really turned off by the crazies, and he's hoping you go see Valkyrie now. Did it work?
