Tom Cruise sues gossip mags for saying he abandoned Suri
There's a lot you could say about Tom Cruise, but two things The Juice* doesn't doubt are A) He's a dedicated professional on a movie set, and B) He really does care about Suri, his daughter with Katie Holmes. We're not just guessing about that second part, either, because he's suing a couple gossip magazines who said he abandoned the 6-year-old.
Cruise had lawyers file a $50 million lawsuit in federal court over Life & Style's July 30 issue (which read "Suri in tears, abandoned by her dad") and the Oct. 1 issue of In Touch Weekly (featuring a photo of Suri and the slammer "Abandoned by daddy"). The lawsuit says Cruise, who also is seeking punitive damages for defamation and invasion of privacy, "loves his daughter dearly and would never abandon her," TMZ reports.
"Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be," Cruise attorney Bert Fields said. "To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible. Tom doesn't go around suing people. He's not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue."
To put us in Tom's camp even more, any judgment money Tom wins from Bauer Publishing, which owns the two rags, will be given to charity, so go make sure you're part of the jury pool today.
