TV show isn't enough for Simon Cowell

Tbdcowell080307 American Idol just isn’t a challenge for Simon Cowell anymore, so the producer is trying to hit the big screen with Star Struck, a movie about, well, a singing reality show.

The Hollywood Reporter says Star Struck will focus on 10 competitors who are trying to make the big-time, and was inspired by Alan Parker’s 1980 film Fame. The film’s roles will even be filled through a nationwide open call auditions, like the ones used Cowell’s show.

“The story is told through the eyes of those 10 contestants,” said Cowell. “We want it to be the musical version of Rocky — an underdog story, a feel-good film.”

Expect to pay $10 to watch what sounds like a condensed season of Idol next summer.
