Tyler Perry tops Forbes list of highest-paid male entertainers
Want to know how versatile Tyler Perry is? In addition to being a popular writer, director and producer, he also tops this year's list of Forbes' highest-paid men in entertainment. That would explain his next project, Tyler Perry's Tyler Perry Laughs All the Way to the Bank.
The magazine says Perry made $130 million between May 2010 and May 2011, thanks to five movies and two TV series in the past couple years. In fact, most of the list's top 10 made their loot doing things besides acting.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer came in second with $113 million, thanks to his Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides making $1 billion worldwide. Steven Spielberg, who either directs or produces most every movie in Hollywood, brought in $107 million. Thanks to a high-grossing concert tour, Elton John's take was $100 million, while Simon Cowell's import The X Factor and escape from his own American Idol brought him $90 million.
The bottom of five of the top 10 includes author James Patterson ($84 million, although there's no word how much all his co-authors pull in); Dr. Phil McGraw ($80 million); Leonardo DiCaprio (whose $77 million makes him one of the most powerful actors in Hollywood right now, and the only full-time actor on the list); Howard Stern ($76 million -- and that's with a pay cut from SiriusXM); and Tiger Woods ($75 million). And that's without him even playing golf well.
