Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams sign up for 'On the Road'
It may have taken producer Francis Ford Coppola 30 years to get a movie version of Jack Kerouac's On The Road made into a movie, but now there are two big stars attached -- Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen. Note to our readers: Please, please don't confuse this with Viggo's other movie, The Road.
Not that On The Road doesn't have its depressing moments; Deadline.com says Adams will play Jane, the junkie mom of two, while Viggo will play Jane's husband, Old Bull Lee. Lee's character was based on writer William S. Burroughs, whose second wife Joan Vollmer was the blueprint for Jane. Not to spoil anything, but Burroughs shot Joan in the head while he was drunk, so you can see happy endings are not the order of the day.
The movie, slated for next year, will be directed by Walter Salles, and also features folks like Kirsten Dunst, Kristen Stewart and Sam Riley, who will play Kerouac alter ego, Sal Paradise. Friday Night Lights' Garrett Hedlund will play Dean Moriarty, so we'll have to see how he does in TRON: Legacy before we form an opinion. If they were looking for a group of dejected, drugged-out and forlorn personalites to breathe life into this story, they sure found the right combo.
