Watchmen director's cut coming to theaters

Tbd-watchmen062609 News of a Watchmen director's cut seeing a theatrical release is joyous news to nerds everywhere -- well, at least nerds in L.A., New York, Dallas and Minneapolis. Take that, Chicago!

For the scads of comic book devotees who gobbled up Zack Snyder's vision of the Alan Moore original, be happy there's 25 more whole minutes of it coming to big screens one week before a special showing at Comic Con in San Diego on July 25, the Hollywood Reporter says.

Among the added footage is the death of character Hollis Mason, the original Nite Owl.The flick comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 21.

The Comic Con showing will be simulcast as a BD-Live event, so North American viewers can watch the screening at the same time as the San Diego audience, and then follow Snyder as he comments on the movie. We assume viewers will then be able to argue with each other about how the new ending is bad, despite making much more sense.
