Wayans brothers accused of stealing book idea
In a delicious turn of phrase, a one-time personal assistant for three of the Wayans brothers says the trio's book 101 Ways to Know You're a Gold Digger was stolen from a manuscript he wrote. Next thing you know, Jamie Foxx will make this a class-action lawsuit.
Jared Edwards says he quit working for Keenan Ivory, Shawn and Marlon Wayans in 2006 after they told him his unpublished book, You Know You're a Golddigger When ... wasn't good enough to be published, the New York Post reports. Well, not under that title, anyway. Edwards has filed a suit in Manhattan federal court.
He now says that the brothers stole several jokes about women trying to marry a rich guy from his writings. The Wayans' book was published in May, the Post says. One of its companion titles, 101 Ways to Know It's Time to get Out of Your Mama's House, was probably taken from the assistant who replaced Edwards.
