Whitney Houston's funeral will be in New Jersey
Speaking of Whitney Houston, today's marginal update is that the singer's funeral was slated for later this week in Newark, N.J., the city in which she was born (she was raised in East Orange). It will all be pretty incremental until we know what killed her; Reports continue to swirl that the prescription drugs got her before she could have drowned -- that's what the family says cops told them.
NBC New York says the singer's family was meeting with the city's Prudential Center to discuss whether a mega-wattage blowout ceremony could be held there. Because there was no foul play suspected, her body was free to be moved after the autopsy concluded. There's no word if Bobbi Kristina, her daughter with Bobby Brown, will attend, since word is she's suffering a nervouos breakdown and is suicidal.
The network says fans have been swamping New Hope Baptist Church, where both Whitney and cousin Dionne Warwick started their singing careers by joining the choir. Houston's mother, Grammy-winning gospel singer Cissy Houston, was in charge of the musical program.
