Whoopi Goldberg was high as a kite during 1991 Oscar acceptance speech
In the most shocking news from 20 years ago, Whoopi Goldberg admitted she was cooking with a little herb before her 1991 acceptance speech for her best supporting actress Oscar in Ghost. Well, after James Franco this year, we really aren't too surprised that kind of thing happens.
TMZ dug up behind-the-scenes footage from Whoopi's voice-over work from 1992's The Pagemaster in which she admits she hit the weed to deal with a bad case of nerves. Watch that video clip here.
"Smoking cigarettes and pot every now and then are my habits. And I thought, 'I've got to relax.' So I smoked this wonderful joint that was the last of my home grown," she says. "When he (Denzel Washington) said my name and I popped up, I thought, 'Oh f--- ... okay, up the stairs ... around to the podium ... there's millions of people, pick up the statue, get the statue."
She does manage to throw in a nice anti-drug message, though: "I know you're not supposed to admit that you smoke pot, but I don't drink alcohol. Just because I do it doesn't mean you should." Unless you want to win Oscars, that is. If you want to watch video of Whoopi's baked speech, click here.
