Will Smith, Jaden Smith will star in an M. Night Shyamalan sci-fi movie
After The Pursuit of Happyness, we know Will Smith and son Jaden are box office gold combined, but now they're taking on an impossible task: Making an M. Night Shyamalan movie watchable. This last-ditch effort to save the director's career must mean the Smith family owes him a big favor.
The father and son will once again star as father in son in an untitled sci-fi flick once named One Thousand AE, the Hollywood Reporter says. The picture is about a boy and his estranged father stranded on an abandoned Earth after their spaceship crashes. It's being produced by Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, which seems to be on a personal crusade to make Jaden a movie star.
"Night is an outstanding filmmaker who has a tremendous vision for this science-fiction adventure story and we couldn't be more excited to be working again with Jaden after our experiences on The Pursuit of Happyness and The Karate Kid," Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad said in a statement. "We're thrilled to have the two of them together on this project."
Shyamalan added that "the chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project." Actually, after The Last Airbender, the chance to make any movie is his dream project.
