Willie Nelson arrested for pot, faces 6 months in jail
Texas has proven once again it has absolutley no sense of humor about anything by arresting Willie Nelson for -- and get this -- possession of marijuana. Katy bar there door, there are simply no more heroes left in the world.
Of course, the real surprise isn't that he was caught with 6 ounces of nickel in his tour bus at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, but rather that authorities seem intent on making him serve a minimum six-month sentence for it (max is two years). He posted $2,500 bail that afternoon. Bruce Margolin, director of the L.A. chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, tells TMZ Nelson will be concentrating on a defense that he had medical marijuana, which is legal in California.
We don't know about that one, since Willie also owns a ranch in Austin, which is where he was headed when he was arrested -- you'd think he'd be aware of the pot laws there. Then again, you'd think the authorities who arrested him would realize he's Willie Nelson and let him go.
