Willow Smith will star in a remake of 'Annie'
It looks like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett won't rest until they've completely redone the '80s in their children's images, now that Willow Smith is starring as the titular orphan in a big-screen remake of Annie. And here we were hoping she'd hold out for the remake of The Next Karate Kid.
The AP reports Willow, who has blown up for her overproduced club banger Whip My Hair, will move into Daddy Warbucks' place thanks to Overbrook Entertainment, the production house co-owned by the Smiths, Jay-Z and Sony Pictures. The flick will rework the 1982 movie, which was based on the 1977 musical, which was based on the comic strip by Harold Gray. So it's not like this is exactly new ground they're breaking, is our point.
Don't expect to see this trend with the Smith children go away any time soon; The Karate Kid with 12-year-old brother Jaden pulled in $343 million globally. It's only a matter of time before they're starring in overhauls of The Breakfast Club, Witness and maybe even Gremlins.
