'The X Factor' shuffles its categories to shake up ratings
Instead of canning everyone again, The X Factor has overhauled its mentor categories in order to further espouse a media-generated obsession with youth and innocent. Or more appropriately, they put everyone in categories with mentors their peers may have heard of.
Examiner.com says the show has switched gears by taking out gender distinctions and lumping boys and girls together in four new subsets: Demi Lovato will mentor solo singers aged 12 to 16; Britney Spears will watch over solo singers aged 17-24; L.A. Reid will get the oldster solo singers 25 and older; and Simon Cowell will get groups, because he's the one with the proven track record of dealing with large gatherings of people with no talent.
The site says the changes will be implemented to cater to Demi most of all, because it would be plenty awkward if a 20-year-old with an eating disorder anda cutting problem was telling someone out of college how to do things. But hey, it's TV, so we can fix that, no problem!
