Zac Efron may replace Tobey Maguire in 'Spider-Man'
We already know Spider-Man is getting overhauled for its next installment and Tobey Maguire is gone, but who is Universal eyeballing to replace him? Would you believe Zac Efron? Actually, yeah, we'd believe an unmitigated disaster like that. It's Hollywood, after all.
The U.K. edition of OK! says Efron is in talks for a $14 million contract to star as Spidey in the reboot, slated for 2012. We take that with a grain of salt, but they say Maguire's the one who suggested it.
“After dumping Spidey, Tobey then came to the rescue by recommending that Zac should take over his role," a source tells the mag. Maybe that was once final jab at Universal. And that's worse? High School Musical partner Vanessa Hudgens may be added, too, to replace Kristen Dunst.
“It would be a great coup to land her as well," the clueless source says. “The franchise would be revitalized and transformed by two of Hollywood’s most gifted and fast-rising young stars.”
And the geeks everywhere would wonder why Peter Parker was suddenly a cool kid and Mary Jane is no longer a redhead.
