Rapper M.I.A. is no stranger to controversy, but this one is in court. Benjamin Bronfman, the father of M.I.A.’s son, got a restraining order against her, to prevent her from taking her son out of Brooklyn. She’s such a calm and serene person, we’re sure that rolled off her like water off a duck’s NO WAIT THERE WAS LOTS OF SHOUTING ON TWITTER!!!

“M.I.A has been texting and calling Ben, saying she will take their son to London, even though they both live in Brooklyn and the child goes to school there,” a source told the New York Post’s Page Six about their 4-year-old, Ikhyd. “Ben filed a motion for a temporary restraining order preventing her from taking their son to the U.K. against his wishes.” He was worried Ikhyd would end up at M.I.A.’s London home, so paperwork went through Wednesday night.

She went off on Twitter, saying Bronfman, the son of Seagram’s heir Edgar Bronfman Jr., wants to “take my son away from me.” The Post says she tweeted, then deleted, a rant that read in part, “BEN you cant take my son away from me… Just because you have money doesnt mean you have the right… THE BRONFMANS WANT TO TAKE MY CHILD AWAY FROM ME. WHAT KIND OF (----) IS THAT? THEY NEVER SEE HIM. Every child needs the MOTHER, I GREW UP WITHOUT A DAD. If (I) grew up without my mother i wouldn’t be here.”

Neither side’s lawyers are talking about this, but we do know one thing: If poor Ikhyd has to stay in Brooklyn forever, he runs the very serious risk of hipster indoctrination. Maybe she could use that argument in court.
