Emma Thompson says she forgave Helena Bonham Carter for breaking up marriage to Kenneth Branagh
It's been almost two decades since Helena Bonham Carter broke up Emma Thompson's marriage to Kenneth Branagh, so Emma has decided she's okay with speaking up about it. And what she has to say is, oh, it's fine now, Helena. Boy, that was anticlimactic.
Thompson, 54, told the Daily Mail the whole affair is "all blood under the bridge" at this point. We should hope so, since the affair in question started in 1994, ending Branagh's marriage to Thompson the following year. The pair married in 1989, but Branagh couldn't help himself when meeting Helena while making Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
"You can’t hold on to anything like that," Thompson continued. "It’s pointless. I haven’t got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago." That's good, since they made those Harry Potter movies together.
The painful feelings did help her out when she filmed Love Actually, though: "I’ve had so much bloody practice at crying in a bedroom, then having to go out and be cheerful, gathering up the pieces of my heart and putting them in a drawer," she said. Besides, she met Greg Wise while making Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility in '95, and they're married with a daughter and adopted son, so everything worked out.
