Great, engagement season: Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are betrothed
Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy — who for PR reasons seems to have been romantically linked to nearly every partner he’s ever had on the show, amirite? — popped the question to fellow pro Peta Murgatroyd on Saturday.
“I’m in love with you, and I will be in love with you for the rest of my life,” said Chmerkovskiy, 35, during his on-stage proposal at a performance of Sway at the Olympia Theater in Miami. From the looks of the millions of Instagram and wire photos, it was a rather romantic and joyful moment.
“She said 'yes,’ ” Chmerkovskiy posted on the ’gram later that night, a fact that was confirmed by the countless media snaps of Murgatroyd's ring finger.
The couple have been dating on and off since 2012, and a source told People, “Peta is his girl and he’s never stopped wanting to be around her,” adding, “She is so the opposite of clingy and is content to just spend time with him and be happy.”
Lesson to us rockless ladies: Don’t be clingy or your life will never play out like a Zales commercial and, to quote Meg March, you’ll end up a dried-up old spinster. Yep, Little Women reference. Deal with it.
“I love the two of you with all my heart. You have my brother’s loyalty, heart,” Chmerkovskiy’s brother Val wrote to Murgatroyd, 29, on Instagram. “His one and only for the rest of his life. You’re family now and that makes you my sister, the second most important woman in my life. What’s mine is yours. Forever and always. Petachka your team got numbers now.”
Okay, that was sweet. Now we’re left to wonder for two brief seconds what the couple’s first dance will be like...
