In the most important (to Hollywood executives) of all of Forbes' year-end celebrity lists, Natalie Portman has been crowned Tinseltown's most bankable actor. You know how this one goes: For every dollar the studios pay Portman, she brings in a whopping $42.70. Can we invest our meager 401(k) in her? It's not like we have a pension.
Forbes estimated the figure using earnings from Black Swan, No Strings Attached and even that flop Your Highness. Thor didn't count because she was only a supporting actress (if you can call fawning over Chris Hemsworth acting). And that's during a year she took time off to be with son Aleph.
Even though former Terminator 3 actor Nick Stahl has gone missing twice this year, the LAPD found him quickly enough. Seems he was "touching himself" in a Hollywood porn shop. We don't think that's what they meant by Rise of the Machines.
TMZ says Stahl, 33, was arrested for a "lewd act" in a private booth on Thursday and booked for a misdemeanor conduct charge. He reportedly left the cop shop on his own, with no one to pick him up. What, you think wife Rose Murphy is going to go get him after that?
Stahl went UA in May and was reported missing by Murphy, who said he had been on his way to rehab. In July, after checking out of his facility, Stahl was missing again. As far as we can tell, no drugs were involved in this case, but that's a lot of writing about a guy nobody has seen since 2003.
It's no surprise one of those pointless White House.gov petitions to deportPiers Morgan has gotten more than enough signatures (somewhere areound 88,000 as of this writing), just because he came out in favor of gun control. More interesting is that someone else has started a petition to keep him the U.S., because, as they say it, "no one in the UK wants him back." Whew! We thought you were going to say no one watches CNN.
"Keep Piers Morgan in the USA," which only had about 8,000 signatures, reads " We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA. There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment. Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back. Actually there is a third. It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react."
Fontella Bass, a St. Louis-born soul singer who hit the top of the R&B charts with Rescue Me in 1965, has died. She was 72.
Bass died Wednesday night at a St. Louis hospice of complications from a heart attack suffered three weeks ago, her daughter, Neuka Mitchell, said. Bass had also suffered a series of strokes over the past seven years.
Bass was born into a family with deep musical roots. Her mother was gospel singer Martha Bass, one of the Clara Ward Singers. Her younger brother, David Peaston, had a string of R&B hits in the 1980s and 1990s. Peaston died in February at age 54.
Ray Collins, who invited guitarist Frank Zappa to join the band that eventually became the Mothers of Invention, has died at age 75.
Collins' friend Patrick Brayer tells the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin that the musician from Claremont, Calif., died Dec. 24, five days after a heart attack.
Collins brought Zappa to R&B cover band the Soul Giants in 1964. By 1966, they had become the Mothers of Invention, releasing their first album, Freak Out, on Verve Records. Collins sang on three albums, then left the Mothers, saying their comedic approach to music didn't suit him.
Mike Scaccia, a guitarist for metal bands Ministry and Rigor Mortis, died last Saturday after collapsing during a show, Rolling Stone reports. He was 47.
The guitarist was playing at a Fort Worth venue for Rigor Mortis singer Bruce Corbitt's 50th birthday when he asked the house to turn off its strobe lights. He then collapsed and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead of a heart attack.
Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet managed to pull off a very private wedding, marrying Richard Branson's nephew Ned Rocknroll a few days ago without telling anyone they were even engaged. We suppose when it's your third marriage, you really don't make all that big of a fuss.
"I can confirm that Kate Winslet married Ned Rock'nRoll in NY earlier this month in a private ceremony attended by her two children and a very few friends and family," her rep told Us Weekly in a statement. "The couple had been engaged since the summer." Shows what we know. The mag also says her very best good pal Leonardo DiCaprio walked her down the aisle, which was no doubt filmed in 3D by James Cameron.
Singer and actress Brandy Norwood has been dating music executive Ryan Press for a good long while now, so it's probably good news for her family to hear the couple are finally getting married. Who knows how long they've been waiting to set up her Club Wedd gift registry ...
"They are thrilled and happy and Brandy feels this is so right," a source tells Us Weekly, which notes she's been hinting at wanting to get married for a long time. This will be her first marriage, because the 33-year-old was never married to music producer Robert Smith, which she admitted to hiding back in 2008.
Britney Spears won't have to worry about her former brother-in-law Christopher Federline filing for a restraining order against her in U.S. District Court in Tampa anytime soon, for several reasons. For starters, the whole complaint was bogus, which we kinda figured. Secondly, it wasn't Kevin Federline's brother at all -- we just knew Chris wasn't Sean Preston's father. Oh, and finally, the feds just picked up the guy who filed it, because he violated probation while pretending to be the uncle of the Newtown, Conn., killer.
In the lawsuit filed in Tampa on Dec. 18, Chris Federline allegedly called Brit "out of control and a maniac," but it turns out the filer is the one out of control. StarCrush.com points out it was really Pennsylvania man Jonathan Lee Riches, 35, who has filed something like 5,000 lawsuits over the last eight years, and was released from a federal correctional facility in Kentucky back in April after serving years for conspiracy and wire fraud.
Riches was just arrested by the feds for probation violation for leaving Pennsylvania to go to Newtown, Conn., after the elementary school massacre there. Two days after the killings, he impersonated gunman Adam Lanza's uncle, calling himself Jonathan Lanza and telling the New York Daily News and other media organizations the shooter took an antipsychotic called Fanapt, according to The Smoking Gun. Riches was also accused of failing to make restitution payments the court ordered as part of his five-year probation agreement.
When students at Grand Valley State University in Michigan were asked to write phonetic pronunciations of their names, one student proved worthy of the degree being bestowed.
Britney Spears has run afoul of her ex-husband' Kevin Federline's family again, this time being targeted for a temporary restraining order in court papers taken out right here in Tampa by Kevin's brother Christopher. It seems Brit allegedly stole from him, harassed him and blackmailed him, just because he (and not his brother Kevin) sired Spears' son Sean Preston. Well, that's one we haven't heard!
Christopher apparently said in papers filed Dec. 18 in U.S. District Court in Tampa that Britney "is out-of-control and a maniac," according to the National Enquirer, via RadarOnline. It seems recently the X Factor judge "went to Kevin’s house to pick up Sean Preston and Jayden James, and (his) wallet was on Kevin’s coffee table when Britney opened it up and stole (his) Capital One credit card." She then supposedly ran up more than $4,500 in charges. Totally sounds like something she would do, right?
It's been a spell since we've had a big wedding with a bunch of rich people, so it's fun to hear Janet Jackson is allegedly engaged to Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana. That marriage would certainly keep her away from all the Jackson family drama in California.
A source told Us Weekly that Al Mana, Janet's boyfriend of two years, "gave her a huge, expensive ring" this year, and the reason you don't see her wearing it is because "she's afraid it will get lost, so she keeps it locked up." the 46-year-old's been married twice before, so this may be a real engagement. "She wants kids. If she can't have them, she will adopt," the source adds.
Jennifer Lopez will not be able to intimidate her way out of her most recent legal battle: her $20 million extortion lawsuit against a former driver has been tossed after a judge decided she was just trying to scare the guy out of suing her.If only ex-husband Marc Anthony had that guy's lawyer.
Ex-chauffeur Hakob Manoukian filed a $2.8 million suit against J. Lo awhile back claiming he was forced to quit after her manager Benny Medina humiliated him in public. She responded in August by filing this lawsuit against him, claiming Manoukian was unfairly demanding $2.8 million, or else he'd give the gossip media a laundry list of embarrassing information he'd heard while driving her from place to place.
While Jessica Simpson just announced her second baby, Glee creator Ryan Murphy has become a father for the first time. After watching the first season of American Horror Story, we're not so sure he should be raising a kid, but congrats anyway.
E! says Murphy and husband David Miller sent an email to family and friends on Christmas Eve announcing, "Logan Phineas Miller Murphy, Born December 24, 2012 9:47 a.m." It included a photo of a 6.6-pound, 21-inch baby boy inside a Christmas stocking. That's quite a gift from Santa Claus.
