James Corden to host the Tony Awards
Suddenly we feel the urge to sing because we just found out that talk show host James Corden (a.k.a. the baker in Into the Woods) was just announced as the host of this year’s Tony Awards.
Fun fact: The Late Late Show host — who is having an incredible year, by the way — won a Tony in 2012 for best leading actor in a play for One Man, Two Guvnors, so go him.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards,” Corden said in a statement. “Both times I’ve worked on Broadway have been amongst the happiest times of my professional life. I consider it a huge honor to be asked to host such an incredible night. It’s gonna be fun, I can’t wait to dust off my tap shoes!”
The show will air on CBS on June 12, but before that, Corden is slated to star in a special segment immediately following the Super Bowl this Sunday. He’s also featuring the Big Game’s halftime performer, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, on his next Carpool Karaoke segment.
“The road to the Super Bowl Halftime is paved with karaoke,” the preview teases.
