Jim Carrey’s girlfriend, Cathriona White, dies of suspected suicide days after breakup
Not even sure how to begin writing this one.
Cathriona White, the on again-off again girlfriend of Jim Carrey, has died of an apparent suicide. The 28-year-old's body was found inside a Sherman Oaks, Calif., home on Monday night, just days after the couple split on Thursday.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” Carrey said in a statement. “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
A source told TMZ that a suicide note addressed to Carrey mentioned that the two had parted ways. Police confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that a note was found inside the home. White also took to social media the day of the breakup to write a cryptic goodbye.
“Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest,” she wrote.
The day before she and the 53-year-old actor separated, White captioned an Instagram photo of flowers with this ominous W.B. Yeats quote: “Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame.”
According to TMZ, friends discovered White’s body when they stopped by to check on her. Police told the gossip site that they believe she died of a drug overdose, and that pills were found next to her body. The official cause of death is still under investigation.
Carrey and White began dating in 2012 and most recently got back together in May.
