Judge says Lindsay Lohan's attorney Mark Heller is incompetent
Lindsay Lohan, who is currently in psychotherapy and having drug screenings ahead of her March 18 court date to see if she violated probation for that hit-and-run in California, has a new headache after the judge said her attorney is incompetent. It’s almost like hiring a New York lawyer for a trial in California wasn’t the best idea.
Judge Jim Dabney accused Mark Heller of not knowing what he was doing in a Friday hearing, noting the paperwork Heller filed was so erroneous, it was inexcusable, TMZ reports. Heller tried to blame previous lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley, but Dabney told him to save that noise, questioning whether Heller was even qualified to handle the case. Now Lohan either has to find a new lawyer to assist, or come in to court to say she waives her right to a qualified attorney.
He certainly thinks so: “Having become a lawyer over 44 years ago, I certainly know the important issues,” Heller told the site after the hearing. Now he’s busy trying to find co-counsel who might be able to help him. Plus: His motion to dismiss the charges was denied.
Heller and prosecutors were trying to work out a plea deal before the hearing, but that didn’t pan out. It seems the prosecution wanted Lohan to, you know, be punished, and LiLo just wasn’t amenable to that.
